Pittsburgh
An emerging city with a new economy

Once known as a powerhouse of 20th century industry, Pittsburgh's metropolitan area has been extensively redeveloped and quickly has become one of the most watched cities in this new millennium. Boasting a new image as a high-tech center, Pittsburgh has largely shed its outdated industrial image and is gaining recognition worldwide for its advanced medical facilities, major universities, myriad cultural institutions, and start-up technology companies.

The striking beauty and glistening majesty of downtown Pittsburgh's stone, glass and steel architecture, the notably inexpensive cost of living (including low rents), a low overall crime rate, and ethnic neighborhoods that insist upon friendliness and charm, make Pittsburgh a very pleasant place to live and work. The city is consistently ranked among the most livable cities in the U.S., perhaps because Pittsburgh possesses the heart and soul of a small town, yet is abundantly rich in cultural attractions including museums, a world-renowned orchestra, and regional ballet, opera, and theater arts. In addition, the city has a dynamic club scene, numerous indoor and outdoor recreational activities, and several national sports franchises that play in state-of-the-art facilities.
